End of Season for the Terriers

The VEX 2011 Season has come to a close for the Terrier Robotics team. The team was amazing this year and set a high bar for competition. Team #99 (RHS Varsity) set a new school record bringing home four tournament champions trophies, after only going to five competitions for the season. The team also had an amazing Record at the Huntington Beach Competition scoring 113 pts in Driver Skills. A big shout out to the members of Team 99, which includes Sven Blaser, Kyle Rosendale, Erik Blaser, and Tad Kasulka. These guys were absolutely amazing this season with team chemistry, and getting the job done to the highest level possible, which contributed big to the teams success. The JV team 99B struggled this season, but the Freshman team #99C stayed with the Varsity team always competing and challenging the other teams well. They brought home Runner-up multiple times, and also qualified for the world championships. Unfortunately neither the Varsity team #99, or team #99C with a combined six qualifications for world, will be able to go due to the high cost of the trip. The Terrier Robotics team is now one of the best in southern California, and look to keep that going in future seasons. The team will now also be working on side projects for school districts, and other vehicles that will be controlled using robotics systems. The team is also currently looking for sponsors for next season, so the program can continue to grow and hopefully be able to pay for the world championship trip next year. We would like to thank BAKERS, as well as the Redlands Optimist Club for huge donations during the season. We look forward to next season and the challenges that it will bring.

Amazing Season for Team 99

Terrier Robotics is showing their ability and power this season, that has been taken to a new level. Thadeous Kasulka, Kyle Rosendale, Erik Blaser, and Sven Blaser are the members on Team 99, and have worked since august to build and program an amazing robot.
This season has been great for Team 99. They have been unbelievable in competition and are currently sitting with a 37-2 win-loss record. This season the Terrier Robotics Varsity team 99, has taken home three Tournament Champion trophies, the Energy award, Cooperate award; and the Freshman team 99C has taken home two Judges awards, one innovate award, and one tournament finalist award. This last saturday the varsity team also took home the Driver Skills Challenge award with a record setting 103 points. They also had the high score for the day with a score of 89 points, in the quarter finals round. This season team 99 has qualified four times for the VEX World Championships in Orlando, FL. The World Championships will be held April 14-16 and Terrier Robotics is looking to have a strong showing there as well. The team has also been getting increased press including, Front page article for the Redlands Daily Facts newspaper. ABC 7 News has also covered the team, including video of the robot, and interviews which will air tonight at 6:00PM. The school has also been enthusiastic about the teams success and want to see them go all the way. However to be able to attend the VEX World Championships to compete from 400 teams, from all around the world the team needs to raise $5,000. The $5,000 includes transportation (airfare, and rental car), hotel, food, and the registration fee for the team. We therefore need sponsors to help fund this trip, to make it possible. We would like to thank last years sponsors, who helped us out last year to get to the VEX 2010 World Championships in Dallas, Texas. We would also like to thank Bakers who has been a strong sponsor this year. If you would like to sponsor us please contact us.

Team 99 - Tournament Champion's

On Saturday, January 16, 2011, Redlands High School Robotics competed again at Sultana High School for the High Desert VEX Round Up Championship. All three of our teams once again were amazing, finishing all three, in the top three alliances at the end of the day. All of our teams have had to overcome multiple problems throughout the year so far, but we finally fixed them all and performed at the top. Team 99 went undefeated through qualifiers and had over 70 SP points going into the tournament placing us in first. Team 99 was the captain for the first seated alliance partnering with team 1680C from St. Luke School, and 1879D from Sultana High School. Team 99C was the captain for the third seed alliance and partnered with 99B and 1680A from St. Luke School. Team 99 continued excellence throughout the rest of the competition and placed first, scoring over 145 points in the finals match of two games. Team 99 and its alliance members therefore earned the title of Tournament Champions earning, Sven Blaser, Erik Blaser, Kyle Rosendale, and Tad Kasulka the qualification for World Championships the second time this season. Team 99C, and 99B also performed excellent, and placed third at the end of the day after being eliminated in the Semi-Finals. 99C however did not come home empty handed and won the Judges Award. We would also like to congratulate team 951A from Murrieta Mesa High School who received the Excellence award and were amazing opponents throughout the day. We would also like to thank our amazing sponsors once again, for helping fund everything that we do. If you are interested in sponsoring us please leave a comment below, and we will get back to you.

Strong Finish for the Terriers

On Sunday, December 12, 2010 Terrier Robotics once again sent all three teams to another competition. This time it took place at Poway High School, for the Poway VEX Robotics Competition. Once again the Terrier Robotics teams did not disappoint, and placed Teams 99 and 99C (allied together) for a third place finish along with one other robot as part of the alliance from another school. Terrier Robotics did not come home empty handed however, Team 99 won the Energy Award for the day, and team 99C won the judges award. We were happy to bring home two more trophies, to add to the collection at Redlands High School. To hopefully gain a better advantage to place first at the next competitions many modifications are now being made to our three robots to prepare for them. Included in the modifications is a complete re design to the team 99 Robot (article below). We are currently still looking for new sponsors, and would like to thank our current sponsors for helping us get this far.

Recreating the Beast

Since we returned from our last competition at Poway High School( By the way Poway deserves a big shout out, especially to John who set the whole thing up as his senior project, great job guys!) we saw the need to redesign some of our robot. The first problem was the drive, since we had alot of things attached to the new ECU the overheating function was turned on when it wasn't supposed to and it shut down our left side motor, we attempted to fix this by rewiring some stuff but in the end it did not help; our second problem was our sweeper and lift, even though they worked flawlessly they had no advantage during play because of our driving style and the style of the other teams. We'll post a video of the sweeper a little later in the season. To fix these problems we decided to completely remove the ring collector system and work on a intricate autonomous and a perfectly functioning robot otherwise. This should help the overheating problem because we will be mounting less things and having less motors use power, and it should overall make the robot lighter and faster which are key components to this years challenge. We will be posting pictures of our robot soon after its completion.

Team 99 Qualifies for World!

Team 99 took first place at the High Desert Vex Round Up Competition in Hesperia, CA yesterday. Therefore team 99 has qualified for the VEX World Championships in Orlando, FL. Terrier robotics had an amazing day with all 3 teams reaching the semi finals, but unfortunately our 99B and 99C team were allied together, and faced the 99 team allied with the 563B team in the semi finals and 99B, and 99C were then eliminated from competition. We would also like to congratulate team 563B who accepted our request to alliance with our team 99 in the elimination tournament after qualifying rounds. Team 563B also earned the title of tournament champion along with team 99. We would like to congratulate all teams who made it to finals as well as the other two Redlands High Teams who had a very strong showing.

Once again thanks to all our sponsors for helping us get this far!

Competition in One Month!

As we are approaching one month till our first competition, our teams are getting very excited and a lot of hard work is still being done. The Varsity team #99 recently ordered and received our new VEXnet System bundle, as well as purchasing multiple high strength motors for the teams. Final touches and programming with the new VEXnet are being done for team #99, while the other two teams, #99B, and #99C are still very busy in the building stages and are making fast progress. We are all looking forward to competition, and once again would like to thank our sponsors who make all of this happen.

A great few weeks so far, the two new teams have stayed with us and finished building their protobot projects. I would like to thanks the new team members on Team 99b, Nick Thomas, Matt Mayo, and Devin ! As well as our new members on Team 99c Charlie Macleod and Bobby! Everyone is working on robots, our varsity team already has a design and is putting everything together, some pictures will be posted later. Our J.V teams are currently designing and brainstorming to come up with something to beat the Varsity robot! Good luck to everyone!

Varsity Team #99 Clubs on Mall Robot

This is a picture of the Robot that was created in less than five hours before the clubs on the mall, that occurred last Wednesday night (September 15, 2010). If you would like a more detailed build explanation or info, see the below post entitled "Clubs on the Mall"

Clubs on the Mall

This Last Wednesday Redlands High School had a shortened day and students were released at 11:33. The Terrier Robotics Varsity team took the time to design and build a robot for the clubs on the mall in addition to our two proto-bots, and our Prototype Round-Up Robot. In less than five hours the four varsity members, (Sven, Erik, Tad, and Kyle) built a robot. The Robots basic design was a cage with a top cover that opened with the pneumatics, creating a mouth, and had eyes and a nose on top of the cage. The robot was created with two bumper switches, (one to shut motors off, and one to fire pneumatics). It also had four other motors for the drive system. The pneumatics system consisted of two air tanks and two firing pistons on each side. The robot was programmed by Sven Blaser, and put on display later that night for the Clubs on the Mall which occurred during the Redlands High School Open House. We were very joyed to have interest in the club from fellow students, parents, teachers, and administration. Thanks for your Support. - 2010-2011 Varsity Team

ProtoBots are the simplest robots made by Vex Robotics. They include three sensors, four motors and a Vex Microcontroller "Brain". These bots have a back button sensor that disables the robot for five seconds. In other words... Robot Tag!
